Applying to UD

The University of Dayton has a competitive admission process in which applications for admission are reviewed for specific academic majors or, when applicable, for undeclared status in an academic division.

Admission to UD occurs on a rolling basis. Students applying for the winter 2009 semester are notified beginning in mid-October, and those applying for the fall 2009 semester are notified beginning in late October or early November.

Your child can apply to UD through our online application or the Common Application.

UD offers rolling admission, which means we continue to admit qualified students until space in our class is full. Some academic programs reach capacity for new student enrollment early. As that happens, we will offer a wait list to qualified students. If space becomes available, we will begin to offer admission to students on the wait list.

To apply for fall 20089 a complete application must be on file in the Office of Admission. A complete application consists of the following materials:

  • Application (including the essay)
  • Official transcript
  • Official scores from the ACT or SAT (critical reading and math)
  • Counselor's recommendation
The University reserves the right to request additional information from select applicants.

Admission Timeline

While the college application process may seem overwhelming, our timeline simplifies the process by giving a clear-cut picture of what happens when.

Junior Year
During their junior year, students should explore our web site to learn more about UD. While surfing our site, students may request information about the admission process, campus events, special programs and more. We encourage students to visit campus, speak to an admission counselor and discover all that UD has to offer.

Fall of Senior Year
Students should arrange to take the ACT or SAT and have their scores sent to the University of Dayton. They should also complete UD's application or the Common Application. While we prefer early submission, the application priority date is December 15. After the priority date has passed, students can still apply to be considered for admission and scholarship. Students should also print the recommendation form for their high school counselor, who submits it to the University of Dayton.

Winter of Senior Year
We encourage students to obtain the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available from a high school, college or the web. Submit the FAFSA to the processing agency as soon as possible after January 1, and list the University of Dayton (code #003127) to receive the results. Visit the FAFSA Web Site >>

Financial aid applications received by March 31 will receive priority. We recommend the completed FAFSA be submitted to the processing agency no later than March 1.

Spring of Senior Year
Students may participate in one of UD's special programs for accepted students, held during the spring semester. Information will be available in October about these programs.

Once students have been accepted, they may proceed to our enrollment confirmation site and pay their deposit by check, money order or credit card. This payment should be made by a due date specified in a letter the student received. However, if more time is needed to make an enrollment decision, the University of Dayton will grant a request for an extension of the deposit due date until May 1. A request for an extended deadline will not affect your child’s admission standing or financial aid award.

In addition, students will submit medical information (including vaccination information), choose a meal plan, and select a computer model and payment plan. Beginning in January, accepted students will be able to access Virtual Orientation. Students will be notified of academic scholarships and financial aid packages by March 15.

Summer After Senior Year
Residence hall and roommate assignment notification are made after July 1. Billing statements are mailed in July. For students entering in August 2009, the New Student Orientation Program welcomes new students and parents to UD August 22 to August 25. Fall classes begin for all students on August 26.
