Admission at a Glance
The University of Dayton has a competitive admission process in which applications for admission are reviewed for specific academic majors or, when applicable, for undeclared status in an academic division.
Balanced consideration is given to all aspects of students' college preparation, including their grade record and pattern throughout high school, selection of courses in preparation for college, class standing or ranking, and scores from the ACT or SAT (critical reading and math). The admission committee also considers your recommendation, along with the student's character and record of leadership and service.
Admission applications are reviewed at the beginning of the school year for entrance the following fall. UD offers rolling admission, which means we continue to admit qualified students until space in our class is full. Some academic programs reach capacity for new student enrollment early. As that happens, we will offer a wait list to qualified students. If space becomes available, we will begin to offer admission to students on the wait list.
To apply for fall 2009, a complete application must be on file in the Office of Admission. A complete application is comprised of our Application for Undergraduate Admission and Scholarship or the Common Application (including the essay), official transcript, official scores from the ACT or SAT (critical reading and math), and your recommendation. The University reserves the right to request additional information from select applicants.
Course Selection in Preparation for College
Students will be aided in their transition to college studies by taking college-preparatory classes during high school. UD recommends the following course units:- Four units of English
- Three units of math
- Two units of science
- Three units of social science
- Four units of academic electives
Grade Record and Class Standing
No minimum grade point average or class rank is specified, but these measures must provide evidence of a student's readiness for college studies in his or her chosen academic program. Results of the ACT or SAT
No minimum standardized test score is specified, but these measures must provide evidence of a student's readiness for college studies in his or her chosen academic program. Students should arrange to take the ACT or SAT no later than December of their senior year. They should indicate that their scores be sent to the University of Dayton (ACT: 3342; SAT: 1834). Earlier test scores may be submitted. For admission, the highest score will be used if a test is taken more than once.Counselor's Recommendation
Students should print the recommendation form for you. As a counselor, you should:- Complete the recommendation.
- Provide an official transcript of courses taken and grades received.
- Include results of either the ACT or SAT (critical reading and math).
- Note the current senior-year courses in which the student is enrolled and grades for any courses completed.
