Grants
Grants are a form of gift assistance — financial aid that does not have to be repaid. Generally, grants are awarded based on financial need, cost of education and enrollment status. There are several sources for grants, including federal, state and University programs. Unless noted, the amounts listed are for the 2007-08 academic year.
The Pell Grant is based on financial need, and eligibility is determined annually. Awards range from $890 to $4,731 per year. Apply by completing the FAFSA.
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant
The Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant is based on financial need, and eligibility is determined annually. Awards range from $200 to $2,500 per year. Apply by completing the FAFSA.
Veteran Benefits

If you are a full-time student, a U.S. citizen and eligible for the Pell Grant, you may also be eligible for the Academic Competitiveness Grant. Complete the FAFSA for consideration.
Ohio College Opportunity Grant
First-time college students from the state of Ohio may be eligible for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant. This award is based on financial need. To apply, complete the FAFSA.
Ohio Instructional Grant
The Ohio Instructional Grant is based on financial need, and eligibility is determined annually. The grant is available to families who are residents of Ohio and have a gross income of less than $39,000. Awards range from $444 to $5,466 per year. Apply by completing the FAFSA.
Ohio National Guard Program
All Ohio residents enlisted in the Ohio National Guard, regardless of financial need, are eligible for the Ohio National Guard
Program. The award was $7,822 for the 2007-08 academic year. Apply by contacting your local National Guard recruiter or calling 614-336-7032.
Ohio Safety Officers Memorial Fund
Children of Ohio peace officers or Ohio firefighters killed in the line of duty, regardless of financial need, are eligible for the Ohio Safety Officers Memorial Fund. The award was $3,990 for the 2007-08 academic year. Apply by contacting the Office of Financial Aid.
Ohio Student Choice Grant
All Ohio residents, regardless of financial need, are eligible for the Ohio Student Choice Grant. The anticipated award is $660 per year, but it may vary depending on the availability of state funding. The grant is renewable for up to ten semesters of undergraduate study at UD. Apply by completing the Ohio Residency Form, available from the Office of Financial Aid.
Ohio War Orphans Award

Marianist Family Reduction
The Marianist Family Reduction Grant is not based on financial need. It is available to first-generation nieces/nephews and sisters/ brothers of living members of the Society of Mary and Daughters of Mary who are/were full-time faculty or staff members at UD. The award amount is 50 percent tuition reduction per year, and you must reapply each year. For more information, contact the Office of Financial Aid.
