First-Year Experience
Although the first year of college is exciting, it is also a time of transition and anxiety. To help you understand the transition into college and maximize resources at the University of Dayton, all first-year students participate in a special program, the First-Year Experience (FYE).
The goals of FYE are based on the theme "Understanding Your Education, Taking Control of Your Future." FYE includes a seminar that offers an in-depth look at the university experience, development of your Portfolio and a professional résumé, and personal academic advising.
You'll learn about the department, division and University, as well as a variety of opportunities available to you. Tickets to some of the best arts and cultural performances in Dayton will come your way. You earn one semester hour of credit for participation, which counts toward graduation. Introduction to the University
A weekly seminar called Introduction to the University, required of all incoming first-year students, thoroughly introduces you to UD. You will identify interests and aptitudes, establish realistic goals and develop an education plan to guide you through your college career.

- An Exploration of your Values, Interests and Aptitudes

- Understanding the University's General Education and Competencies Requirements and Other Specialized Curricula in the College
- Planning a Schedule of Classes for Next Semester
- Choosing a Major; Choosing a Career — Strategies for Decision Making
- Personal Development: Service-learning and Other Enhanced Educational Opportunities
Advising
You will be assigned an academic adviser who is committed to you and your particular needs. Your adviser will be able to provide you with guidance and recommendations when arranging your class schedule and planning your future.
