UD students are diverse and bring a variety of academic backgrounds to the University. Because of this, we cooperate with several major testing programs, allowing you to receive college-level course credit for knowledge achieved through prior experience.
In addition to these programs, you may receive credit by satisfactorily completing departmental examinations in certain areas. This type of proficiency examination is arranged directly with a specific department chairperson, normally before you enroll.

CLEP examinations are administered at 1,400 college and university test centers nationwide. Visit the CLEP section of the College Board's web site for the test center nearest you. If you are enrolling in the fall term, the April or May testing dates are advised. After your scores have been received at the University of Dayton, we will contact you concerning any credit you have earned.

At UD, IB is administered through the dean's office in the College of Arts and Sciences, and you may be eligible to receive transfer credit based on the results of your IB higher level examinations. No credit is awarded for standard level examinations.

Advanced Placement
The AP program recognizes college-level work completed in high school. Courses are taught to qualified high school students, and examinations are given upon completion of the material in May of the academic year. To determine the availability of the program at your high school, consult your guidance counselor. College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
College credit toward a bachelor's degree may be awarded by successfully completing some subject tests of the CLEP. Since not all examinations are acceptable and some subject examinations require a free response section (essay), please contact the University of Dayton for information. General Certificate of Education A-Level Examinations
GCE A-Level examinations are based on a British secondary school program of college-level work and standardized examinations. To receive credit for GCE A-Level examinations you have taken, submit your official test results to the dean's office. A-Level examinations with a grade of "E" or better will be considered for credit.International Baccalaureate
The IB Programme is a rigorous preuniversity course of studies leading to examinations. Each examined subject is graded on a scale of one (minimum) to seven (maximum). Diploma candidates are required to select one subject from each of the six available groups. At least three and not more than four subjects are taken at higher level while others are taken at standard level.At UD, IB is administered through the dean's office in the College of Arts and Sciences, and you may be eligible to receive transfer credit based on the results of your IB higher level examinations. Transfer of College Credits
If you have earned college credits while in high school and want these credits transferred to the University of Dayton, you must have an official transcript of these grades mailed from the college to UD’s Office of Admission. In most cases, these credits will be accepted toward your degree requirements. In order for credit to transfer, you must have earned a C or better in a course. Only credit hours transfer.Advanced Standing
